How to have less anxiety and more joy!

Part 1

Life is so busy. And even in our downtime, we may find ourselves feeling anxious that we aren’t busy.

To alleviate the anxiety we experience around constantly doing and being busy, it is so important to take some time each day (and it doesn’t have to be a lot of time) to simply move at your own pace. Maybe that looks like slowing down during your morning routine of getting ready for work; maybe it looks like getting up from your desk and eating your lunch outside, or near a window, or better still, with a friend from work, just so you can enjoy a break from your computer.

Whatever it is and however it looks, each day give yourself the gift of moving at your own pace guided by your own internal clock.

Part 2

The statement never gets old because it one of life’s great truths: it’s the little things in life that bring us happiness.

We all have so many commitments, duties, and roles we fill – career person, mother/father, girlfriend/boyfriend, wife/husband – to name a few.

In all that we do for others, it’s easy to forget to do little things for yourself. It really can be anything.

For me, it’s my morning coffee ritual. Everything about the process of making my coffee brings me joy: from anticipating the warmth of the cup in my hand to stirring in my favorite hazelnut creamer and enjoying the aromas filling the kitchen. I even bought a handmade coffee scoop just because the sight of it made me smile.

Joy can be found in the most mundane of things and in the most common of places. Truth be told, much of the time, it is in the common moments of life, not the big glitzy moments, where true joy is found.

So remember to give yourself a little something that makes your heart smile each day.
